How to Write a Breakup Letter

A breakup letter has one job: end clean. Not a verdict, not a eulogy, not a door held ajar. Write what was real, admit what you are each keeping, and exit without a speech.

How to write it: three rules of restrained prose

  1. No "it's not you, it's me." Name what changed in facts: the moved cities, the different hours, the silence that got comfortable.
  2. Keep one true thing. Say precisely what you are keeping — a song, a street, a way of being met.
  3. Leave without asking for anything. No "I hope we can be friends." The last line should sound like a door closing gently.

Pick the "breakup" mode, put "someone you once meant it with" in the first field, and let the restraint do the rest.
